About Florida Employment Lawyer Jason Gunter
Jason was born in Terrell, Texas in 1965 and moved to Florida with his family in 1971. He grew up in the small fishing village of Matlacha, Florida, where his family has lived for 35 years and still has a home.
Prior to attending law school, Jason was a Firefighter for the City of Cape Coral Fire Department and a member if its union, IAFF Local 2424. In 1993, he was named Firefighter of the Year for the State of Florida.
In 1994, Jason attended Nova Southeastern School of Law, where he excelled academically. After his first year, Jason was appointed to the Editorial Board of the Nova Southeastern Law Review. While attending Nova Law, he received book awards in Trial Advocacy, Pre-trial Practice, Constitutional Law, Contracts, Remedies, and Federal Jurisdiction. 1n 1997, Jason graduated Magna Cum Laude with a class rank of number 4 of 243. He was also awarded the Florida Bar Labor & Employment Law Section Scholarship for academic excellence in Labor and Employment law.

In his first 5 years of practice, Jason litigated several significant cases resulting in verdicts or settlements on behalf of clients in excess of a million dollars. For example, in 1999, Jason was retained by the family of an immigrant farm worker who was killed when he was struck by a dump truck. Jason was able to settle the case for the policy limits of $1,000,000.00. In 2001, Jason was retained by a couple that was seriously injured on the Fourth of July as a result of police negligence that resulted in an automobile accident. The total settlement was in excess of $1,000,000.00. Finally, in 2003, Jason was counsel for a surviving spouse and minor children in a wrongful death medical malpractice suit. After more than a year of litigation, a settlement of $3,500,000.00 was reached before trial.
Jason also has achieved several recent results in cases, including a $3,400.000.00 discrimination settlement against FGCU in September 2008, as co-counsel to Public Justice of Washington, DC. Prior to that, in January of 2008, Jason settled a trucking accident case involving a traumatic brain injury for $6,000,000.00 at the end of a two-week jury trial.
Jason is a member of the National Employment Lawyers Association, the Florida Employment Lawyers Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association and the Florida Justice Association. He is admitted to practice in all Florida State courts as well as Federal Courts in the Middle District of Florida and Southern District of Florida.
